If you spend any time on the trails or in the woods, you'll want your camping kitchen to be clutter-free and well-organized. The style of camping you do, or how primitive you camp, dictates the type of equipment you may need. If you backpack a lot, you'll want a break-down kitchen that you can carry on your back. A more modern camper who does less hiking may want a more full-service type kitchen. If you're somewhere in between these two camping types, you may have previously packed coolers, bags and boxes, but you can save space by organizing your kitchen items.
A tent is your home for as long as you are camping, and modern tents have many more features than the older tents did. You can set up your kitchen outside the tent. Camping tents can be purchased in an array of functions, materials and sizes, each of which is suitable for a different level of camping. A ground mat is not essential, but it will make you more comfortable. It will help keep your sleeping bags and other equipment clean, as well.
As you pack up your shelters, hammocks or tents, include your camp kitchen supplies and have a checklist of the items you want to take along. You'll want to include a cook stove, making sure it's big enough to suit your needs but not too big to carry, if you'll be putting it into a backpack. Pots and pans will depend on what you cook while you're camping. Make sure each item is clean when you pack it, because cleaning is harder in the woods than it is at home. Your camping kitchen may include as much as you need, and you will only need to concentrate on smaller items if you'll be carrying them on your back. If you camp in an RV or only walk far enough from your vehicle to pitch your tent, you can feel free to pack more cooking items and food.
A large foldable camp kitchen may include a portable sink, pots and pans, a water purifier and food. A foldable kitchen will give you a food prep surface, a place to cook, storage and shelf areas and hooks for garbage bags. Many of these items can be folded so that you can easily carry them in a bag. If you don't have a folding kitchen, you can take a card table for your work surface.
Portable camping sinks are very handy, as long as you don't have to haul them around while you hike. They may include a cutting board and a place where your dishes can dry, which will help keep your camping supplies organized.
If you will be camping close to your vehicle, take along a grill or a stove to cook food. Select a stove that is easy to transport, and compact enough to fit in your kit. If it comes with its own carry bag, that will help to make your kit more portable. If you enjoy cooking over an open fire, carry some firewood to start the fire. Then you'll be ready to break out your camping kitchen for dinner.
